(WHC publishers note: For years the TWH owners and trainers have taken their licks from humane groups. And for years we have warned other breeds that they will soon come after your breed aswell. This article is proof, from WVVA. Even those focused on TWH are now taking stabs at racing. Show horses that can be effected by the PAST ACT need to heed, and take notice, these very unscrupulous people are going to lie, cheat ,and steal to bring your rights as horse owners to an end. Its not a question of if, its a question of when, and as long as these folks, who many TWH know as dishonest, wife beating, meth addicted, embezzling, child sexual abusing people, continue make money and get their kicks, its not going to stop. According to The National Center for Biotechnology Information, “Doping in performance horses is defined as the “illegal application of any substance, except normal diet, that might modify the natural and present capacities of the horse at the time of the race.” The prohibition of doping is mainly based on the protection of animals. According to the doping regulations there is no difference between therapy and doping at the time of the race. Thus at the race all medications to restore normal performance have to be regarded as doping.

UPDATE: CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (WVVA) – The executive director of Animal Wellness Action, an organizaton that advocates for animal welfare, has released an official statement regarding the situation.

Marty Irby is a former president of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association.

Irby is a native of South Alabama who grew up on a horse and cattle farm.

“The death of Princess Rachelle is unfortunate, but this is just one of dozens of horses that have died at American racetracks this year. As veterinarians and trainers continue to inject horses with performance enhancing cocktails, the body count continues to climb. It’s quite clear: American horseracing is addicted to drugs, and it’s time for an intervention. The public sentiment is rapidly shifting from a desire to end doping to a desire to end horse racing itself. We applaud Rep. Carol Miller for her support of the bill and call on the rest of the delegation to join in bringing an end to these senseless deaths. Congress must soon pass the Horseracing Integrity Act that will end medication abuse and prevent deaths, or horseracing may very well cease to exist.”

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (WVVA) – Racehorse Princess Rachelle was euthanized on the track at Hollywood Casino Charles Town Friday, according to Equibase records.

The five-year-old mare was fell and broke her leg during the second race.

Princess Rachelle is confirmed to have been running while on the drug Lasix.

Princess Rachelle was trained by John O. Daniel and owned by Evergreen Mills Stable in Virginia.

Horse doping is under scrutiny. U.S. Rep. Carol Miller (R-WV) is a co-sponsor of the Horseracing Integrity Act, H.R. 1754, which aims to stop doping of racehorses.
